The board on your DVD drive will need replacing with one of these before you can install a modchip, it does require a bit of soldering but it's not hard to do, no special skills are required and the solder points are large enough for anyone to be able to handle

These replacement Wii drive board can be used in any Wii console from any region, it does not matter what version drive board was in before, you can just replace the damaged Wii DVD board with these D2C ones. You can use this to replace your black wii with D3-2 boards, also a lot of people damaging their Wii consoles while trying to install chips, these D2C Wii drive boards are possibly the best way to repair the damage that was done without having to replace the whole drive. Complete Wii drives can cost twice as much as these D2C model Wii DVD board, so these really are the cheapest way to fix damage from installation error. Please note that if you are replacing a damaged DMS board with this D2C one and you were trying to install a WiiKey v1 or any of the older chips on the original board, you will now need to get a chip like the WiiKey 2 to make them work. With that being said, these really are the cheapest and best way to repair a damaged board without having to replace the entire drive mech.
